In ultra-deep hydrocarbon development, the Luntan-1 well in the Tarim Oilfield successfully implemented a dual electric submersible pump tandem lifting process, achieving a pump setting depth of 6,019.38 meters and setting a new world record for electric pump lifting. The well, with a total depth of 8,882 meters, had ceased flowing and conventional lifting methods proved inadequate. Engineers adopted a tandem approach where the lower pump feeds the upper pump, overcoming challenges including complex string configurations and long-distance power transmission. The Tarim Basin currently has 262 wells exceeding 8,000 meters in depth, indicating broad application prospects for this technology.
In the civilian and agricultural sectors, the deepwell pump industry continues to upgrade toward higher efficiency and energy savings. Wenling's Daxi Town, home to one of China's largest pump and motor industrial clusters, ranks first globally in deepwell submersible pump production, with products exported to more than 200 countries and regions. At a recent pump and motor exhibition, permanent magnet variable-frequency deepwell pumps emerged as a highlight, achieving over 30% energy savings compared with traditional asynchronous motors, with some models reaching 120-meter head and supporting remote control. Intelligent high-speed variable-frequency deepwell pumps introduced by some manufacturers can achieve 1,000-meter head, providing water supply solutions for mountainous, hilly, and water-scarce regions.
Technological innovation continues to advance. One company has obtained a patent for a deepwell pump control system that automatically adjusts operating power based on real-time flow and water level monitoring, reducing the risk of dry-run damage. Energy-saving and material-efficient deepwell pump products have achieved single-stage head 35% to 85% higher than current standards, with pump body length only 60% to 80% of comparable products, finding wide application in mine drainage and municipal water supply.
From ultra-deep oil lifting to remote mountain water extraction, deepwell pumps serve as critical equipment, with technological breakthroughs continuing to support national energy security and public welfare.
