Electrical Submersible Pump for Oil Well

Electrical Submersible Pump for Oil Well, short for ESP, is core downhole production equipment specially designed for onshore and offshore oil recovery. It is assembled with motor, protector, separator and multistage pump stages, able to lift crude oil from deep underground to surface steadily. It fits vertical deep wells, deviated wells and heavy oil wells, featuring high flow capacity, low energy consumption and long underground service life.

An electric submersible pump (ESP) is a downhole artificial lift device used to improve oil well productivity. It is primarily used in medium-deep oil wells, high water-cut oil wells, heavy oil wells, and production wells in offshore oil fields. The system consists of core components such as a submersible motor, a protector, a gas-liquid separator, and a multi-stage centrifugal pump. The motor drives the pump unit to rotate at high speed, continuously lifting crude oil from the well to the surface.

Compared to traditional mechanical oil recovery methods, ESPs offer advantages such as a wide displacement range, adaptability to deep well environments, smaller surface footprint, and strong continuous operation capability. They can be customized according to well depth, casing size, crude oil viscosity, gas content, and corrosive environment, providing a reliable artificial lift solution for long-term stable oilfield production.

Product Working Principle

The ESP system is installed below the oil well fluid level and supplies power to the downhole submersible motor via a surface control cabinet.

During operation:

The submersible motor drives a multi-stage centrifugal pump to rotate;

Well fluid enters the pump body through the inlet;

Multi-stage impellers progressively increase pressure;

A mixture of crude oil, natural gas, and formation water is transported to the surface pipeline;

A protector isolates the well fluid from the motor's internal lubricating oil, ensuring long-term stable operation of the motor.

ESP increases production capacity through continuous downhole pressurization, making it particularly suitable for oil wells with insufficient natural pressure or those requiring improved recovery efficiency.

Material & Manufacturing Technology

The pump stage is made of corrosion-resistant alloy steel and precision CNC machined to ensure smooth flow and high efficiency.

The submersible motor uses high-temperature resistant insulation materials, ensuring stable operation even in high-temperature downhole environments. The protector uses special isolation oil to effectively prevent crude oil, brine, and gas from entering the motor components.

All critical components undergo anti-corrosion coating and sealing treatment. Our automated assembly line ensures precise matching of every component. Each electric submersible pump for finished oil wells undergoes a complete downhole simulation test before delivery.

Key Performance Features

1. Suitable for Complex Oil Well Environments

ESP can be applied to: deep wells, directional wells, offshore platform wells, high water-cut oil wells, heavy oil thermal recovery wells, and small casing wells.

2. High Production Capacity

The multi-stage centrifugal pump design provides continuous and stable lifting capacity, offering better production efficiency in high-production oil wells compared to traditional pumping equipment.

3. Reduced Surface Equipment Requirements

The entire pump unit is installed downhole: reducing surface equipment footprint, lowering operating noise, and making it suitable for space-constrained environments such as offshore platforms.

4. Excellent Corrosion Resistance

For sulfur-containing, high-salt, and high-temperature reservoirs, alloy steel and stainless steel materials, along with anti-corrosion coatings, can be used to improve the long-term reliability of the equipment.

What factors need to be considered when selecting anElectric Submersible Pump?

Selecting an ESP is not simply based on power; it requires comprehensive consideration of the following:
1. Well Depth: The deeper the well, the higher the head and the greater the power required.
2. Production Requirements: Determine the number of pump stages and displacement based on the target daily production.
3. Crude Oil Properties: Including crude oil viscosity, sand content, water cut, and gas-oil ratio.
4. Wellbore Conditions: Including casing size, temperature, corrosive environment, and well inclination angle. By comprehensively matching these parameters, the risks of ESP overload, gas lock, and early failure can be reduced.

Main Application Scenarios

Electric submersible pumps for oil wells are widely used in:
Onshore oilfield development
Offshore platform oil production
Deep oil well production
High water-cut reservoirs
Heavy oil thermal recovery projects
Directional and horizontal wells
They are particularly suitable for oilfield projects requiring long-term continuous production and high daily output.

Accessory Compatibility

This ESP follows unified API dimension standards, perfectly matching supporting accessories including ESP flat cable, wellhead sealing assembly, variable frequency control cabinet, downhole screen and flowmeter. Standard interface realizes fast on-site assembly, simplifies installation and later inspection maintenance, shortens well completion construction cycle.

Factory Manufacturing and Quality Control

During production, key components undergo comprehensive testing:
Raw material chemical composition testing
CNC precision machining testing
Rotor dynamic balancing testing
Motor insulation performance testing
Pump unit pressure testing
Sealing performance testing
Complete machine operation simulation testing
All ESP systems undergo performance verification before leaving the factory to ensure they meet the long-term operational requirements of the oilfield.
